If it feels like every other driveway in Oregon and Washington has a Subaru parked in it, you’re probably not far off.
From rainy commutes to mountain adventures, the brand has long been a favorite across the Pacific Northwest.
Now, more than 541,000 Subaru vehicles are being recalled nationwide because of an incorrect certification label that lists the wrong rear axle weight rating.
While the issue isn’t a mechanical defect, the incorrect label could cause owners to overload the rear axle, increasing the risk of a crash.
To remedy the recall, Subaru will provide corrected labels, or Subaru owners can have the correct label installed at their nearest dealership free of charge, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Notices will be sent out between August and September.
Which Subaru models were affected in the recall?
Affected vehicles include:
- 2019-2026 Subaru Ascent
- 2025-2026 Subaru Forester
- 2025-2026 Subaru Forester Hybrid
- 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid
Subaru owners can check whether their vehicle is included by entering their VIN on Subaru’s recall website or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s recall database. However, Subaru has not yet announced when affected VINs will be available to search.

The recall number is WRH-26.
